America's first national automobile show took place in Madison Square
Garden in November 1900. Manufacturers gave driving demonstrations—and a 200-foot ramp tested hill climbing power. Of the 4,200 automobiles
sold in the United States that year, which propulsion method powered the
most popular models? |

DOE News:
15 Projects Selected for CO2 Storage
DOE announced on August 11, 2010 the selection of fifteen new
research projects for geologic storage of CO2. Secretary of Energy
Steven Chu made the announcement of $21.3 million to be invested
over three years. The projects will develop technology and
infrastructure to implement large-scale CO2 storage in different
types of geologic formations across the U.S. Three of the projects
selected are private industries (Advanced Resources International,
Fusion Petroleum Technologies, Paulsson, Inc.), one was the City of
New York, and eleven were Universities (Leland Stanford Junior
University, Clemson University, Colorado School of Mines, Montana
State University, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology,
Columbia University, Indiana University, University of Kansas Center
for Research, University of Texas at Austin (two), University of
Wyoming, and Yale University. The research projects will be
cost-shared with DOE and be 24 to 36 months in duration. |

trivia
ANSWER| |
|
|
The most
popular models proved to be electric, steam, and
gasoline...in that order. Gasoline powered less than 1,000
"horseless carriages" in 1900. One early critic complained
that the internal combustion engine was “noxious, noisy,
unreliable, and elephantine. It vibrates so violently as to
loosen one’s dentures. The automobile industry will surely
burgeon in America, but this motor will not be a factor."
